Interview
Maya Weug was in her element on Day 2 in Zandvoort, ending the in-season test with the fastest overall time after back-to-back session-topping times.
The Ferrari junior clocked in a 1:36.789 early on in the morning’s running, becoming the only driver to set a sub-1:37s time. Following that up with another P1 result in the afternoon, Weug finished no lower than second during the four testing sessions.
Reflecting on her performance across the two days, the Dutch racer said the test had been very beneficial as she looks to recover lost ground in the Drivers’ Standings. “I think it’s been pretty positive,” she began. “The track was very green after the rainstorm on Monday, so yesterday was a bit tricky to adapt to that. After that, once the track got better, it went towards us and I think we found good pace.”
“We’ve tried a lot of things ahead of the race weekend, which is always nice. I’m quite happy with how the team has done, so hopefully we can bounce back after the weekend we had in Montreal.”
Completing 103 of MP Motorsport’s 331 laps, Weug was satisfied that the team have prepared well for any uncertainties that could crop up during the race weekend — despite the absence of any wet weather running.
Asked which areas she’s been prioritising during the test, Weug replied: “Just getting the right balance first of all. Feeling good with the car and trying things here and there to see what we can prepare for in case of rain or different conditions in the race weekend. So, just testing stuff and it’s been good.”
After technical issues last time out in Montreal hampered her pace and cost her the Standings lead, Weug now sits third, 37 points behind Doriane Pin.

Looking to turn a page on a frustrating weekend, it’s a welcome return to Zandvoort for the 21-year-old.
Alongside the thrill of racing on home soil with the crowd behind her, she’ll be wanting to replicate last year’s feat which saw her bounce back into front running form after a difficult weekend in Barcelona, finishing third and second in each of the respective races.
“I’m super happy,” Weug remarked. “Of course, last year went quite well with the double podium. It’s a home race, so I will have the whole family here, which is always nice and doesn’t happen very often. I’m looking forward to driving at home again and it’s a lovely track!”
