Maya Weug made it six out of six as she set the fastest overall time on the third and final day of in-season testing in Bahrain.
The #64 car has remained a firm fixture at the top of the timing sheets throughout testing, setting a 2:04.150 in the morning segment, six tenths ahead of teammate Alba Larsen. She followed that up with a 2:04.922 in the opening stages of the afternoon, with Larsen helping to deliver another 1-2 result for MP Motorsport.
MORNING
Aurelia Nobels kicked off Day 3, with the PUMA driver setting the early pace at 2:06.200. After going fastest across the two previous days, it wouldn’t be long before Maya Weug asserted herself at the top of the timesheets on a 2:04.873.
The Ferrari driver continued on her run, lowering the benchmark down to a 2:04.171 until a final push saw her deliver a 2:04.150 with 35 minutes completed. Alba Larsen slotted into P2 on a 2:04.780, 0.630s off the pace.
As temperatures rose, the remainder of running was focused on mileage, with no drivers coming close to overhauling Weug’s effort. This left Larsen in P2 ahead of Doriane Pin and Tina Hausmann.
Alisha Palmowski followed in fifth ahead of Emma Felbermayr in sixth. Joanne Ciconte finished in P7, with Rafaela Ferreira, Nina Gademan and Aurelia Nobels rounding out the top 10.
AFTERNOON
Only Weug was eager to head out at the green light, clocking in a 2:05.172 on her first flying lap. The Dutch racer improved on her next attempt, leaving a 2:04.993 as the new time to beat within the opening 15 minutes of running.
Joined on track by her teammates, Ciconte sat in second, 0.966s adrift until Larsen managed to close the gap down to 0.474s. Although the second hour remained a quiet affair, Felbermayr sliced the deficit down to four tenths.
However, Weug wasn’t done showing her pace. Returning to the track after a short break, she strengthened her hold over P1 thanks to a 2:04.922. An improvement from Larsen then moved the Tommy Hilfiger driver back into second, 0.214s back from Weug.
Several drivers made late improvements but none came close to beating Weug’s time, with Larsen in second ahead of Felbermayr. Nobels ended the day in fourth followed by Palmowski and Lia Block, whilst Rachel Robertson and Ciconte completed the top 10.
This concludes in-season testing in Bahrain, but the field will be back in action for the season finale next month. Round 7 in Las Vegas will get underway from November 20-22.
