Maya Weug concedes she ‘didn’t do the job she should have done’ after the Ferrari driver left Miami clinging on at the top of the Drivers’ Standings by the tiniest of margins.

Weug commenced Round 3 on fine form, clocking in a top-three time in Free Practice 1 before setting the pace in the second Practice session later that afternoon. However, a rain-affected Qualifying meant she had one shot to set a lap but failed to deliver what she’d expected of herself.

Lining up in P10 for Race 1, she clawed her way back through to fourth whilst her closest title rival Doriane Pin added a second victory to her 2025 tally.

As the title fight took another swing, turning her seven-point advantage post-Jeddah into a one-point lead, Weug admitted that she can’t afford to concede anymore ground going forward.

“We started off with good pace,” she began. “Coming into Miami, we knew that we are strong in terms of pace and we showed that in Free Practice. Unfortunately in Qualifying, I didn’t do the job I should have done with the one lap that we had before it started raining.

“That put us down to P10 for the races, so that was quite disappointing. I think we picked ourselves up as well as we could for Race 1. Starting P10, we came up to P4 and we showed that the pace was actually there.

“From that point of view — good. We know that overtaking and the pace is there, it’s just that we cannot afford to make mistakes if we want to fight for the title.”

RACE 1: RACE 1: Pin charges her way through to clinch victory in Miami

Drawing an end to the first phase of the season, it’s been a busy few months for Weug. With three race weekends and two tests within the space of nine weeks, the Ferrari driver is grateful for the opportunity to recharge ahead of Round 4 in Montreal next month.

Hyped to be racing in Canada for the first time, the 20-year-old is paying sole attention to her own results rather than that of her rivals with nine points covering herself, Pin and third-placed Chloe Chambers.

“I’m actually looking forward to it,” Weug remarked. “Everyone loves the track and I think I’m going to love it and the place. I’m really excited to go to Montreal.

“It’s also good to have a bit of a break because it’s been a full push this first half of the season, so it’ll be good to just relax a bit and try to work on Montreal as well as we can.”

She added: “It’s better not to think too much about the title. Of course, it’s in the back of my mind and I want to win it! But if you start thinking about it too much, then it will compromise the results, so we just have to do the job every weekend, then try to get as many points as possible everywhere we go.”
